About Campaign Lab

Campaign Lab is a network of progressive technologists and campaigners focused on campaign innovation. Founded in 2018, we operate through a small paid team, a committed group of volunteers, and a wider network of campaigners, technologists and progressive organisations.

We are an experimental, research-driven organisation. We research, innovate, test and embed effective tools and practices to strengthen progressive campaigning. Our work includes applied research, pilot projects, hackdays, and partnerships with MPs, campaigners and progressive organisations.

About the Role

Campaign Lab produces work that matters, but only if the right people know about it, understand it, and can use it. This role exists to make that happen.

We are looking for a Communications Manager who thinks beyond traditional PR. Yes, you will manage our online presence, build relationships with journalists and write compelling content. But just as importantly, you will think hard about how to make complex research findings genuinely accessible, experimenting with formats, channels and approaches to reach different audiences in different ways. At Campaign Lab, communications is itself a form of innovation.

This is a role for someone who is a strong, confident writer with a sharp editorial eye, but who is also technically comfortable, at ease with digital design tools, social platforms and AI-assisted workflows. You will be proactive, well-organised and happy working independently in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift quickly.

Key Responsibilities

Content and communications strategy

  • Take ownership of how Campaign Lab communicates its work to partners, the wider progressive ecosystem and the public
  • Develop and execute a communications strategy that builds Campaign Lab’s profile and gets our research and findings in front of the right audiences
  • Think innovatively about how to present different types of information to different audiences, experimenting with formats and approaches rather than defaulting to a standard report or press release
  • Review and edit reports, research outputs and other publications before they are released, ensuring they are clear, well-written and ready for public audiences

Digital presence and channels

  • Own and manage Campaign Lab’s online presence, including our website, LinkedIn and other social media channels
  • Manage our newsletter, developing content, growing the subscriber base and tracking engagement
  • Ensure our digital channels are active, consistent and reflect the quality of Campaign Lab’s work
  • Monitor analytics and use data to inform decisions about content and channel strategy

Media and external relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists covering politics, technology and AI
  • Proactively identify opportunities for Campaign Lab’s work to generate media coverage
  • Draft press releases, pitches and briefings

Creative and digital production

  • Produce high-quality digital content, including graphics, short videos, data visualisations, training and other formats
  • Use tools including Canva, video editing software and Facebook Ads Manager to create and distribute content
  • Support Campaign Lab’s research and pilot projects that involve communications, including designing and pushing out Facebook ads, testing leaflet formats, and other applied comms experiments
  • Use AI tools confidently to increase productivity and quality across your work

Person Specification

Essential

  • An excellent writer — clear, concise and adaptable across different tones and formats
  • Strong attention to detail, with a sharp editorial eye for errors, inconsistencies and unclear language
  • Experience managing social media channels and newsletters in a professional context
  • Knowledge of website management and basic web content tools
  • Hands-on experience with digital design and production tools, including Canva, video editing software and Meta Ads Manager
  • Proficient in the latest marketing knowledge and techniques
  • Comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiasm for using AI tools to enhance and accelerate your work
  • Genuine commitment to Campaign Lab’s mission and progressive politics

Desirable

  • Experience working in a communications role in politics, campaigning, technology or a related field
  • Familiarity with the progressive political landscape in the UK, including political parties, trade unions and civil society organisations
  • Experience building media relationships and securing coverage in political or technology press
  • Experience communicating complex research or technical content to non-specialist audiences
