Problem Addressed
Collecting information and intelligence for campaigns, opposition research, and civic technology projects can be extremely time-consuming. Campaigners often need to monitor a wide range of news sources, websites, and publications to stay informed about developments relevant to their work.
Recent advances in AI have created new opportunities to automate parts of this process, making it easier to gather, organise, and analyse large volumes of information from across the web.
Approach & Implementation
Campaign Lab volunteer Chris Owen initially developed What Have Unions Done For Us?, a tool that uses AI-assisted research techniques to monitor and aggregate content from a range of online news sources. The tool can also be directed towards additional websites, allowing users to build customised feeds focused on particular organisations, sectors, or topics of interest.
Following the success of the original union-focused project, Chris developed a more flexible architecture that can be adapted for a wide variety of monitoring and research purposes. The platform automatically gathers content from selected sources and presents it in an accessible format, helping campaigners stay up to date with relevant news, insights, and research materials.
As with all of our tools, iterative improvement is only possible through testing and user feedback. If you have any feedback for this tool, please feel free to get in touch with [email protected]
